Hello! I’m Rhubyn.

I’m a student from Lincolnshire, Illinois, with a strong interest in both the sciences and the arts. My passion for chemistry extends beyond the classroom into my ceramics practice, where I experiment with glazes and explore the connections between chemical principles and artistic expression. What started as a ceramics elective at school quickly grew into a sustained commitment: independent study, weekend studio work, and a growing portfolio of pottery that reflects both technical skill and creativity.

I also dedicate much of my time to tutoring young students in math and my high school peers in chemistry and physics. Partnering with middle school teachers, I support students who may not otherwise have access to one-on-one help, offering guidance in all levels and abilities of math. I find the most fulfillment in breaking down complex problems into clear, approachable steps. When I engage in authentic work, I not only strengthen my own learning, but can also better help others.

Outside of school and the studio, I value time with my grandparents and love exploring Chicago’s cultural landscape, from concerts and plays to museum exhibitions. My grandmother has subscriptions to the Symphony and Opera and finds lots of ballets and plays for us to go to as well. I’m pictured with my mom and grandma below! In these halls, I am able to relax, learn new things and gain new ideas to solve chemistry, physics, or math problems. I can come up with unique solutions to problems that I otherwise would not have outside, in the noisy world.

Whether I’m at the pottery wheel, in the classroom, or working with students, I approach challenges with patience, curiosity, and a willingness to step outside my comfort zone.
